# Get started with Conversations API

You cannot enable the Conversations API on your own. Your dedicated account manager or [Support](mailto:support@infobip.com) must perform the initial setup.

Before setting up Conversations over API according to your preferences, complete the following prerequisites:

1. Create an [Infobip account](https://www.infobip.com/docs/essentials/getting-started/create-an-account) (if you do not already have one) by completing the platform onboarding.
2. **Enable the Conversations API for your account**. To activate this solution, contact [Support](mailto:support@infobip.com) or your dedicated account manager.
3. Enable the [communication channels](https://www.infobip.com/docs/conversations/conversations-over-api#available-channels) you want to use with the Conversations API. **Note**: Live Chat is available by default.
4. [Configure senders](https://www.infobip.com/docs/conversations/conversations-setup/basic-settings#senders-configuration-queues).

The [Conversations setup](https://www.infobip.com/docs/conversations/conversations-setup) guide will walk you through creating users and agents (including assigning agent and supervisor roles), and configuring queues and routing.

After completing the prerequisites and enabling Conversations over API:

- You can create users and agents, and assign roles such as agent or supervisor.
- You can configure queues and routing either via the API or the web interface.
